Diebidale Lodge, Ross-shire

The estate, approached through part of the Ancient Forest of Caledonia at the head of Strathcarron, is one of the finest sporting estates in the Highlands of Scotland.

Extending over 20,000 acres (30 sq miles), the ground rises from 300 feet above sea level to the high top of Carn Chuinneag at 2,749 feet.

Glen Diebidale and Glencalvie are two of the most picturesque glens in this part of Ross-shire. There are spectacular views from the high tops towards the east and west coasts and the estate supports an impressive variety of wild life. You may see red, sika and roe deer, golden eagles, buzzards, red grouse, peregrine falcons, ptarmigan and many resident and migratory smaller species.

The estate offers superb mountain and woodland walking and tours can be arrange in what is one of the most historically interesting glens in the Highlands.

Fishing

The Glencalvie Estate has some of the best fishing on the River Carron including the famous Falls Pool. There are also a number of hill lochs on the estate with both wild and stocked brown trout. Boats are available on three of the lochs and catch records are available from the office.

There is salmon fishing for 4 rods (with an annual catch of 80 – 100 fish). The first fish arrive at the beginning of May, and through until the end of the season on 30th September, given the right water conditions, rods can enjoy spectacular sport.

A knowledgeable ghillie will ensure that you make the most of your sport.

Stalking

The ground is traversed by pony tracks dating from the days when Dyson Perrins (of Lea and Perrins) owned the estate. Average cull is about 75 stags and you will have the services of two experienced stalkers.

The Forests of Glencalvie and Diebidale carry a good stock of deer and 2 rifles can expect to take 5 – 10 stags each week during September and October.
