The Lodge was built in the mid 19th century by the Marquis of Breadalbane as a stalking lodge for the Blackmount Estate.
The journey takes about 1¼ hours from the main road and the private metalled road is totally unsuitable for low slung saloon cars. If vehicles are heavily laden on arrival or departure arrangements can be made with the stalker to meet up and transfer luggage into a Landrover to lighten the load.

It is stone built and retains many original features of a bygone era. It is fully equipped with dishwasher, fridge, washing machine, deep-freeze and electric blankets on all beds.
There is no television as reception is unavailable and no telephone at the house as this too is unavailable (this includes the use of mobile phones which are out of range of the beacons). There is a radio link phone for emergency use and there is also a phone at Ardmaddy 7 miles away.
Tenants must bring all their own linen (the beds have blankets) as it is not provided but all electricity, gas and logs are included in the rent.

The Kinglass is essentially a spate river and along with many west coast rivers it has suffered but can be very exciting when conditions are right.
There is a hill loch, Loch-na-Hiuraiche (Loch of the Fairies) approximately 3½ miles walk from the Lodge where large numbers of Brown Trout are regularly caught. The loch also has a rowing boat. There is also a stocked Lochan near the house.
Fishing on the Etive is also available from the Estate boat with outboard motor which may be used if accompanied by a stalker of ghillie. Life jackets must be worn.

The hills rise from sea level to 3500ft and whilst much of the ground is steep there is never the less great variety and not all the stalking is precipitous. The ponies are used and two ghillies are employed during the season to work along side the 2 resident stalkers. 3-5 stag weeks are offered.

Approach on the A85 from the direction of Tyndrum/Dalmally to Oban. Turn right after the Awe Filling Station on your left at the signpost marked Inverawe and Inverawe Smokehouse.
After approximately 1½ miles on the public road bear right uphill on to a private road that runs through forestry. Keep left at the first divide in the road and right at the second. There is a vehicle barrier with a gate code further on which can be obtained from the stalker prior to arrival.
The road runs for 7 miles along the shore of Loch Etive to Ardmaddy and the mouth of the River Kinglass. It then crosses over the river and runs up Glenkinglass for a further 7 miles to the Lodge.
The Lodge stands amongst traditional farm buildings, a stalkers cottage and two ghillies bothies.
