Middle Blackhall Fishings

Middle Blackhall is outstandingly attractive, secluded and yet easily accessible, being only half an hour's drive from Aberdeen Airport.

A variety of pools, runs and glides provide excellent holding pools and lies in varying depths of water. This beat is directly opposite the famous Cairnton Water, on which Mr Arthur Wood pioneered the use of the greased line in the 1930's. The river banks abound with wild flowers in early summer. Cowslips, wild geraniums and lupins are among countless species which add colour to the magnificent scenery. Banks are cut to a standard seldom encountered on other beats. The beat extends from a concrete marker on the south bank above Douglas Pool, downstream to the Mill Rush Pool below Invercannie Pool. Although many of the pools can be fished from the bank, fishermen are advised to equip themselves with chest waders.

GLENBOGLE LODGE

In conjuction with the fishing, tenants are offered accommodation in Glenbogle Lodge which overlooks the Middle Blackhall beat. The lodge is very comfortably furnished and the accommodation is ideal for up to six people. A maximum of eight people are allowed but there will be an extra charge of £60 per person per week. The ground floor consists of a sitting room, a dining room and a kitchen and a rod room. Three double bedrooms, two single bedrooms and two bathrooms are on the first floor.

Glenbogle is usually let as a self-catering lodge but it is often possible to obtain the services of a local cook who will do the catering for a party. The lodge is cleaned daily. Tenants will be responsible for their own food and drink.

As the Lodge is timber built throughout no smoking is allowed indoors.

It is very much hoped by the owner that any tenants taking the fishing will take Glenbogle Lodge as well, but this is not obligatory. However tenants requiring the Lodge will be given preference over those who do not.

The beat is situated approximately 4 miles from Banchory and is reached by forking left off the B974 just south of Banchory Bridge, on to a minor public road signed to Auchattie. After about ¾ mile take the first turning right. This road into which you turn is signposted as a dead end. Follow this road along the south side of the river for approximately 3 miles. The surface changes from tarmac to hardcore and is bounded on either side by woodland. Shortly after the change in surface from tarmac to hardcore take the left hand fork in the road and carry on through the forest. On leaving the forest Glenbogle Lodge, the owner's Norwegian timber house, can be seen ahead on the left, with the Middle Blackhall fishings on the right. The ghillie's house is adjacent to Glenbogle Lodge and the fishing hut is situated just beyond on the right.
