Detached period property with garden and parking located near the heart of Bishops Castle

This characterful property benefits from high ceilings, period details and generously proportioned rooms. Well-presented throughout and offering comfortable accommodation, the property is located on a good-sized plot which offers scope for extending subject to necessary consents. The expansive reception hall has plenty of space and provides an impressive entrance to the property, with a wooden entrance door and staircase, as well as stained glass windows. At the front of the property, and benefitting from a large bay window, the sitting room features wood panelling under the window, a picture rail and fireplace. The adjacent dining room enjoys views over the garden and an original built-in cupboard. The kitchen features a small pantry and possible utility area. A door from the kitchen leads to a 'boot room' area with a further door leading to the garden, and also a cloakroom. To the first floor, the master bedroom enjoys the largest room and features a bay window and an original cast iron fireplace. The two further bedrooms are both well-proportioned, all served by family bathroom and separate toilet.

Outside

The property boasts a handsome and well presented exterior with a large covered porch at the front entrance. A driveway leads up the side of the house to the garage and provides space for off street parking. There is some attractive planting to the front and sides of the house, while at the rear there's a good-sized area of lawn bordered with well-maintained hedges. A stone wall and smart railings set the house back from the street.

Situation

Boasting market town status since 1249 there is still a thriving livestock market at the auction yard and a popular farmers market to be found in the newly refurbished town hall, fast becoming the rejuvenated heart of Bishops Castle. There is a fantastic mix of independent shops, museums, cafes, pubs and microbreweries on the doorstep. Of particular note is The Three Tuns of 1642; the oldest licensed brewery in Britain, and The Castle Hotel which stands on the site of the ancient castle and once owned by Clive of India. Bishops Castle has a wonderful community spirit with many local celebrations such as the carnival, beer festival and Michelmas festival. Located in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty the surrounding countryside makes for excellent cycling and walking, it is no surprise that status as a ‘Walkers Are Welcome’ town was awarded in 2008. The Shropshire Way, Offas Dyke and prehistoric Bronze Age Kerry Ridgeway are found on the edge of the town. Communications in the area are good with the A488 linking Shrewsbury in the north. The A49 is located a few miles away and rail links are found at Craven Arms and Church Stretton. Further amenities and services include a doctor’s surgery, dentists and a local hospital. There is a primary school and The Community College offers secondary and further education.

Directions

From Shrewsbury via the A488. Turn right into Schoolhouse Lane immediately after the Bishops Castle and 50mph signs. Continue up the hill and take first right onto Bull Lane after the doctor’s surgery on right. At the top of the hill the property is in front of you on the corner of Bull Lane and Castle Green.
