Situation
Roshven is situated in Moidart about 30 miles west of Fort William on the shore of Loch Ailort. The area is known for its stunning scenery and the dramatic mountains that appear to rise straight out of the lochs.
For the outdoor enthusiast, there are a huge number of opportunities and as a result the area has always been popular with tourists. There is sailing, windsurfing, diving and sea fishing on Loch Ailort and the Sound of Arisaig. Roshven Mooring Association offers the opportunity to rent a mooring on Loch Ailort. In addition to the sea fishing, salmon and sea trout fishing can be rented on local rivers and lochs. There are golf courses at Arisaig (13 miles) and Resipole (18 miles) in addition to the course at Fort William. There are an abundance of listed walks and cycle ways and magnificent hills such as Roisbheinn are on the doorstep. The Nevis Range ski centre, Scotland's newest ski centre, offers fabulous runs when conditions allow and the gondola is popular with tourists throughout the year.
Many bird watchers and animal lovers come to the area and Roshven was home to Jemima Blackburn, the renowned 19th century painter who features wildlife in many of her paintings.
There is a local shop in Glenuig providing a range of grocery items and a doctor's surgery in Arisaig. Fort William offers a wide range of high street shops, banks, professional firms, medical centre and hospital.
