Full Details

A period home within a thriving rural community suitable for family and commercial use and with a separate hostel building to the rear.

Craigellachie House
Craigellachie House is thought to be the oldest building in Newtonmore and lies on the junction of the main street and the road to the west coast. The property dates from the early 1800s and is built of harled stone under a slate and part tiled roof over 3 floors.

The principal reception rooms are light and spacious and there is a well-equipped kitchen which connects to the sitting room via a conservatory. There is also a useful study on the ground floor.

The first floor has a master bedroom with en-suite bathroom and 2 further good-sized bedrooms with a family bathroom. The second floor accommodation has coombed ceilings and provides further bedroom accommodation with a third room which is currently used as a storeroom but could be adapted as a further bedroom if required.

Newtonmore Hostel
To the rear of Craigellachie House is a custom built bunkhouse built in 1992 of timber framed construction under a tiled roof. The accommodation comprises an open plan sitting room/kitchen and 2 bunk rooms with 4 fitted bunks and a further bunk room with 2 bunks. There are 2 shower rooms, 1 shower room with wc, and 2 separate wcs and a drying room.

The front of Craigellachie House faces directly onto the main street of Newtonmore. To the rear is a parking area for 4-5 cars and an area of lawn between the house and the hostel with flower beds and trees.

In previous years Craigellachie House was run as a Bed and Breakfast enterprise but presently provides for spacious family accommodation. The hostel is popular with groups of holidaymakers looking for simple self-catering accommodation and has provided very useful letting income over the past years.

The 2 properties combined give flexible accommodation, which could be adapted to a variety of uses. The hostel could easily be converted into a single dwelling suitable for the elderly or as a self-catering or long-term rental cottage.

Situation
Newtonmore is in an area renowned for its natural beauty which in 2003 became part of the Cairngorms National Park. The area combines the peace and tranquility of a Highland village together with numerous outdoor activities including winter snowsports , rock climbing, hillwalking, fishing, golfing, water sports and mountain biking.

The village has a small supermarket, post office and local shops, together with a primary school. Secondary schooling and GP surgery are available at Kingussie (3 miles away).

There is easy access to Inverness via the A9 which has all the shopping and medical facilities of the capital of the Highlands.

Newtonmore is on the main line rail link to the north and south and Inverness airport is approximately 1 hours drive.
