Situation
Ailsa Craig, Lochnagar & Glenmore enjoy a peaceful situation amid delightful countryside in the lovely little hamlet of Achnandarach.

Achnandarach is situated some 2 miles from the famous west coast highland village of Plockton.

Plockton is considered one of Britain's most beautiful villages. It enjoys a mild climate because of the Gulf Stream and the main street is lined with palm trees. In 1973 the village was the location for the feature film The Wicker Man, and in 1995 Plockton was chosen as the location for the television series 'Hamish MacBeth.' With this coverage the village enjoyed an increase in popularity.

There is a good local village store that provides for everyday needs and requirements and a supermarket at Kyle of Lochalsh (5 miles). Plockton village has a number of friendly inns, small hotels, restaurant and pubs.

The village of Plockton has its own reputable primary and secondary schools.

The area is famed for its natural scenic beauty. There are endless walks and climbs and the Torridon and Kintail mountain ranges are close by. The Skye Bridge is only 5 miles distant and local amenities include a gym and indoor swimming pool at Kyle. As with most parts of Scotland, one is never too far from a golf course and the courses at Kyle, Lochcarron and on Skye have spectacular scenery.

Lochs, rivers and sea provide fishing opportunities and some of the local estates can arrange for stalking and shooting.

Road access to Plockton is highly scenic approaching from the east at Inverness or the south at Fort William. Many people only ever arrive at Plockton by boat, the anchorage being sheltered and always popular with passing yachts.

Plockton station has about 6 or 7 trains per day to and from Inverness and Kyle of Lochalsh, passing through some of the most dramatic scenery in the Highlands.

Plockton airstrip, built by the Royal Engineers in 1966, is available for use by private light aircraft.
