Field sports play an important part on many estates and make a valuable contribution to local economies and communities.

Working alongside owners, sporting tenants and licensees, estate managers and gamekeepers we are responsible for tens of thousands of acres of land used across the UK for:

• Shooting
• Stalking
• Fishing

Some are run on a for-profit basis and some continue simply because of the owner’s passion or objectives to support conservation, tradition and the wider rural economy.

On some of the land, field sports are the primary function. Elsewhere they support other enterprises on a rural estate.

Advice on successful operation

Working closely alongside gamekeepers, ghillies, stalkers and their teams, we advise on everything to do with running a successful shoot, stalking estate or river beat, whether run in-hand or let.

We can also manage the raising of young birds, maintenance of habitats, planting of game crops and woodland cover, maintenance of fencing, river banks, gates, butts, hides, seats and vehicles, as well as planning for the season. We are also able to provide important advice concerning the interaction of sporting opportunity and Single Farm Payment, and other agri-environmental schemes.

Management of staff

Our agents can also help with the recruitment and training of new employees on sporting estates.

On shoot days in particular a large number of casual employees have to be brought in.

Beaters, dog handlers, caterers and domestic staff can be organised by us. We have good relationships with people locally who do this kind of work to a high standard.

Habitat management and conservation

Maintenance and planning for the future all feature strongly in the work we do. Growing woodlands and improving habitats takes time and often features in our strategic estate planning.

Many of the sporting estates we manage are very well-established - some are sporting household names - but they are always being improved and developed.

Hospitality

Picnics and barbecues for fishing huts can also be arranged.

Our team can also help the guns find the best local hostelries for accommodation and refreshments.
