Castle Grant, formerly owned by ex-Rangers owner Craig Whyte which hit the headlines last week after being repossessed by the bank, is now being marketed by Strutt & Parker’s Inverness office for offers over £1.1m.

This four level building with both east and west wings designed by John Adam is close to the popular Highland town of Grantown on Spey. There are mature parkland gardens, a landscaped loch and open views to the hills of Cromdale as well as about 35 acres of private land.

There was an extensive programme of refurbishment undertaken and largely complete in the early 1990s and was sold to the previous owner (Whyte) with considerable development opportunities. Kevin Maley of Strutt & Parker's Inverness office says: “It is clear that a number of improvements have been made, however a large part of the property remains undeveloped and a significant amount of investment will be required to finish this off.”

The work that has so far been undertaken is mainly on the ground and first floors and they include a cinema room, ballroom, 4 bedrooms, billiard room, library and kitchen. Most of the bedrooms have modern ensuite facilities and part of the second floor incorporates a 2 bedroomed self-contained guest wing.

Kevin Maley continues: “Castle Grant is a wonderful property which is absolutely ripe for development which could lead to it being one of the premier private houses in the UK.”
