Virtual viewing available: A charming country house set in a wonderfully private location

Approached over a private road through a working fruit farm, Nickle Farm House is set in a wonderfully private location on rising ground. Afforded views over orchards and surrounding countryside, the house has a sunny south facing aspect, and has recently been the subject of considerable expenditure by the current owners.

A long circular drive winds up to a large parking and turning area adjacent to the house. The pillared entrance portico leads into an elegant and bright hallway. All the principal rooms are to the front of the house and all enjoy lovely views.

The drawing room is a gracious and light double aspect room with a large bay window overlooking the garden – the perfect room for more formal entertaining. A wide brick inglenook fireplace with fitted wood-burning stove is the focal point of the room; the ceiling has exposed timbers and ornate plaster detailing. The adjoining sitting room is a wonderfully cosy half-panelled room with a massive inglenook fireplace. This feels very much like the heart of the house, and it too has a bay window overlooking the front. This is the ideal place to curl up in front of the fire with a book in the winter! Steps lead up from the sitting room to the dining room, a more intimate room with some lovely exposed timber framing. Just the place for a long and relaxed family meal.

From the hall, an archway leads to an informal seating area, which in turn leads to the newly fitted and magnificent kitchen. Designed and fitted by Tom Cowley, the generous room is more than 30’ long. Created to give the feeling of clean lines and “unfittedness”, this kitchen is an object lesson in pared back sleek sophistication. The discreet range of kitchen cupboards are arranged around a central island, enhancing the light and airy feeling of this superb space. There is an informal dining area close to the verandah windows, and an automatic trap door on an electronic hoist leads down to the cellar.

Adjacent to the kitchen is a well fitted utility room with an adjoining gym and shower room. The ground floor accommodation is completed by a large study.

A sweeping staircase leads to the first floor landing. Hand painted silk chinoiserie wallpaper depicts traditional ancient Chinese scenes.

The principal bedroom is open to the full height with exposed timber framing. Magnificently proportioned, the room has a wide window on the western elevation with doors to a balcony. One wall has beautifully fitted wooden wardrobes. The en suite bathroom has been fully refurbished with Catchpole & Rye fittings, including a copper bath, twin basins and a large walk in shower cubicle; all have nickel fittings.

Guest bedrooms 2 and 3 each have an en suite bathroom and face south, overlooking the gardens and orchard beyond. Bedroom 4 also has an en suite shower room. The two remaining bedrooms share the family bathroom.

This property has 6.75 acres of land.

Outside

Nickle Farm House stands in glorious hillside gardens. To the front there is a wide sweeping lawn leading to a stable block and to the rear a series of paths leads through lightly wooded areas with dappled shade. Banks of self-sown wild flowers carpet the ground in the early spring months. Varieties of flowering trees give flashes of colour amongst the mature evergreens.

The garden is laid out over a succession of interconnecting terraces, taking full advantage of the southerly aspect. At each level there is a different “character” to the planting schemes, giving a harmonious and exciting feel to the garden.

Close to the house is the heated swimming pool with the heat provided by adjoining solar panels. Beyond the garden is the paddock.

Situation

Nickle Farm House is situated on the rural outskirts of the popular residential village of Chartham in an extremely accessible location.
