The Old Barn is a fine period property situated in the old Bucksford Manor estate, which is centred on the former manor house - now divided into a series of highly desirable family homes. The western end of the two private drives pass the manor house and a five-bar gate leads to the private drive to The Old Barn.
The Old Barn is of an uncertain date and has a considerable array of beams throughout. The reception hall leads directly into the kitchen/breakfast room. Adjacent is the double aspect drawing room with a massive fireplace and doors to the front and rear gardens. Beyond is the utility room, family room, a study area and a bedroom. To the opposite end of the house is a guest bedroom with en suite shower room and a large further bedroom; the family bathroom adjoins.
The first floor is arranged with a very spacious principal bedroom, open to full height, with en suite shower room, and beyond is a gallery and sitting room. Adjacent to the second staircase is a further bedroom with an en suite bathroom.
This property has 0.45 acres of land.
The gardens immediately to the front of The Old Barn are laid to lawn with a cobblestone courtyard and well planted flower and shrub borders. There is a brick outbuilding beneath a slate roof which has been utilised as an additional room and is considered suitable for a variety purposes, subject to any necessary consents.
There is a pergola above the terrace, with a variety of climbing shrubs and plants. To the rear of The Old Barn is an enclosed courtyard designed to catch the early morning and late afternoon sun.
Beyond the main drive there is a large expanse of lawn with a variety of mature and well established trees, and frontage to the River Stour which can be crossed via a wooden bridge. The property has fishing rights over the river.
Agent's Note: Photographs were taken in 2018. The property has been tenanted since then.
Great Chart is a pretty village just outside Ashford. All local amenities are served by Ashford, which has a good range of shops for day-to-day needs, including Waitrose, Sainsburys and Asda supermarkets, as well as some excellent out of town shopping at the McArthurGlen Outlet. There are good schools in the area, and the charming market town of Tenterden is also nearby.
Ashford offers excellent road and rail links to London and the Continent with the M20 (Junction 9) close by. Ashford International offers High Speed services to London St Pancras from 36 minutes and Eurostar services to the Continent.
From Ashford centre: Join the A28 towards Tenterden. At the roundabout by the Matalan store take the third exit (signposted towards Great Chart). After 0.25 mile and just before a small bridge turn right into the second drive leading to Bucksford Manor. Pass the manor house on the right-hand side and The Old Barn will be found immediately beyond.
Parking at the property: With the gate on your right, continue past and turn immediately left to park on the lawn area.Read all
