This unique attached 5-bedroom Victorian house offers flexible character accommodation over three floors, arranged around a courtyard. Part of a former country house, then a school, the property was converted in the 1980s and still retains many character features including; open fireplace, latch doors, ornate cast iron radiators, high ceilings and an impressive original Victorian bathroom, as well as doubleglazed windows and part wood flooring.
The ground floor accommodation flows from a welcoming reception/dining hall with feature stained glass windows and fireplace. The spacious sitting room has wooden flooring, an Arts & Crafts style open fireplace and door to the patio, with pathway leading to the garden. There are two ground floor bedrooms (one with external access) and a family bathroom with separate shower. The kitchen/diner provides a range of fitted and freestanding floor units, modern appliances including a range cooker, and a wood burning stove (not currently connected); with the dining area having space for a large dining table. The property also benefits from a spacious cellar, accessible from the courtyard. On the first floor is the master bedroom, with extensive built-in wardrobes and a luxurious en suite bathroom with freestanding bath and marble vanity sink unit. The two remaining bedrooms, one with feature period fireplace, are on the second floor.
There is a pathway from the rear patio leading to the private garden (of approximately 0.5 acres), which is enclosed by mature trees on all sides, mainly laid to lawn and boasting a variety of specimen trees including; Chinese Cloud Tree, Chinese Fir, Eucalyptus, Foxglove, Magnolia and Monkey Puzzle, as well as specimen shrubs and impressive Rhododendron. The Summer House has a metered electricity supply.
The property is located in the pretty village of Warninglid with its primary school, popular public house, and the nearby Sussex Weald Way provides endless walks, linking with the village playground, cricket field and pub. The neighbouring village of Handcross also has several local shops and a post office, with boutique shops in nearby Cuckfield (about 4 miles distant). The larger towns of Haywards Heath and Horsham lie approximately 5.5 and 7 miles away respectively and offer a comprehensive range of shopping and recreational facilities, together with mainline train services to London.
The A23/M23 provides easy access to Brighton, Gatwick, and the M25 and national motorway network.
Sporting and recreational facilities include Wickwoods Country Club, Mannings Heath and Haywards Heath golf clubs, Show Jumping at Hickstead and racing at Brighton and Goodwood. There are a number of excellent schools in the area; notably Handcross Park, Cottesmore, Hurstpierpoint College, Ardingly College and Burgess Hill School for Girls.
From Horsham head south east on the A281 for about 4 miles before turning left onto Sandygate Lane (B2115), just after the Ciswood House Hotel. After about 0.5 miles, turn left onto Handcross Road (B2110) and continue for just under 1 mile before turning right onto Warninglid Lane (signposted Warninglid). Stay on this road for about 2.1 miles, going straight over at the crossroads with the Half Moon Pub (where the road becomes Cuckfield Lane). Then turn right onto the drive for Court Cottage.Read all
