Delightful thatched house in South Warnborough
- Download Brochure
Varndells is a wonderful period thatched home with exposed timber beams and traditional features throughout, including a fabulous fireplace in the drawing room. The house is believed to date from the 17th century and was originally two cottages. The property has a neutrally decorated interior, with character and charm, and is a unique family home.
Varndells is entered via an attractive weathered part-timbered porch into the entrance hallway. There are doors into the cloakroom/bathroom and kitchen/breakfast room which is comprehensively fitted with a range of wooden fronted units. There is space for a table which overlooks the terrace area to the front of the house and the garden, whilst a doorway in the kitchen leads through to the spacious utility/boot area with dishwasher and washing machine.
From the hallway a door leads into the beautiful dining room with feature fireplace and a door into the study, which is quietly situated within the house and overlooks the garden. The dining room leads through to another hallway with door to the drawing room. This is a feature of the property and has a large fireplace and is currently used as a drawing room with study area at the far end. From the study area, a door leads into a covered entrance porch which could be utilised as the main door for the property. A staircase ascends from the second hallway to the master bedroom en suite bathroom. A doorway leads into bedroom 2 and onto the landing where doors lead to 2 further bedrooms and the family shower room.
Varndells is approached from Gaston Lane via a shared gravelled driveway leading to private parking, and giving access to the house and gardens. The front garden holds plenty of potential for keen gardeners or could be used to expand the parking area.
The attractive rear garden has a large terrace outside the house, ideal for al fresco dining, with steps which lead onto the lawn. The garden is bordered by attractive established planting providing privacy and shade and complementing the period style of the property.
The lawn leads down to a vegetable garden with fruit trees and bushes. There is a compost heap and garden shed.
There is a detached studio in the garden with power and light and a doorway overlooking the garden. This was formerly the garage and could revert, if required, subject to planning consent.
