A substantial chalet bungalow with spectacular views, situated within the Dartmoor National Park
Thurlecote is a substantial 4/5 bedroom chalet bungalow which has been well maintained by the current owner to create a fantastic family home. Situated within the beautiful Dartmoor National Park, the property occupies a large plot measuring approximately 0.8 acres. As the property occupies an elevated position, truly outstanding views of the surrounding countryside and the South Devon coastline in the distance can be enjoyed from the majority of the rooms.
On the ground floor there are three spacious reception rooms, comprising the front aspect sitting room with beautiful views and an open fireplace, the library with parquet flooring and more fantastic views, and the spacious and bright conservatory to the rear of the house. Accessed via the library is an office, as well as a useful storage room. The stylish Prestige kitchen is at the heart of the ground floor with granite worktops, an oil-fired four oven Aga, gas Rangemaster, wine cooler, steam oven, integratedmicrowave oven and a double Belfast sink. A large island at the centre of the kitchen provides further worktop and storage space. A convenient boot room links the kitchen to the conservatory. There are three double bedrooms on the ground floor, plus a spacious study with attractive bookshelves which could be used as an additional double bedroom. The two front aspect bedrooms enjoy fabulous views of the front gardens and the beautiful landscape beyond, and the master bedroom with elegant Sanderson wallpaper has an en suite bathroom. There is also a family bathroom on the ground floor, with a walk-in rain shower.
Located on the first floor is a further double bedroom. This is a spacious room with plenty of storage provided within the eaves, and more superb views can be enjoyed from here. A door leads through to a vast area of loft space providing more space for storage. This room, subject to the purchaser obtaining the necessary planning consents, provides fantastic potential for conversion into further living accommodation. There is also a shower room on the first floor.
The large garden to the front of Thurlecote is surrounded by mature hedges and trees, and a pretty pond provides an attractive focal point. Marvellous views of the surrounding landscape can be enjoyed from here. Parking for numerous vehicles is provided on the driveway.
To the rear, the gardens are mainly laid to lawn and are surrounded by mature trees, providing an excellent level of privacy. Steps lead up to a 40ft heated swimming pool, and a patio adjacent to the conservatory provides an excellent space for al fresco dining and entertaining. At the rear of the garden, a gate provides side access to an outbuilding which houses two stables and a tack room.
Thurlecote is set in a beautiful location at the foot of Haytor in Dartmoor National Park, and is just 4 miles from Bovey Tracey. The property is set within a large plot measuring approximately 0.8 acres, and benefits from exceptional, far-reaching views over the national park, the surrounding countryside and towards the South Devon coastline.
The diverse habitats of Dartmoor provide a stunning backdrop to a range of outdoor activities including walking, cycling and horse riding. Bovey Tracey, known as the gateway to the moor, offers a wide range of everyday facilities, including banks, library, health centre, garages, shops, galleries, inns and restaurants. Bovey Tracey has a primary school, and the independent day and boarding school, Stover School, is about 4 ½ miles away. Newton Abbot has a more comprehensive range of shops and schooling.
Thurlecote benefits from an idyllic Dartmoor location, yet 17 miles to the east is the countys capital, Exeter, which is the most thriving city in the South West. The city offers a wealth of cultural activities with the theatre, the museum, arts centre and a variety of good shopping, including John Lewis, Waitrose and many restaurants. A number of primary and secondary schools can be found in Exeter including Exeter School and The Maynard School, whilst Exeter University is recognised as one of the best universities in the country.
Communications are excellent with the A38 just 5 miles away, providing links to the M5 at Exeter and the A30. Intercity high speed trains operate from Exeter St Davids to London (Paddington), the Midlands and the north of England. From Exeter Central trains operate via Salisbury to London (Waterloo). There are also a growing number of flights to UK and international destinations from Exeter airport, including a route to London City airport with three flights a day taking less than an hour.
From Exeter and the M5 motorway, take the A38 Expressway westbound, signposted Plymouth, and continue for 18 miles. Turn off at the Drumbridges roundabout and take the A382, signposted to Bovey Tracey. At the next roundabout take the second exit and follow until another roundabout. Take the first exit onto the B3387 for Widecombe and Haytor and follow the road to the left for Haytor. Continue on this road for approximately 3 miles and turn left at Haytor Vale.
