Ashfield is a substantial detached village house which presents traditional part tile hung upper elevations and is understood to date from the 1980s, which is now in need of updating.
The house provides light and well-arranged accommodation over two floors. Features within the house include good ceiling heights, arched glazed doors on the ground floor and a fireplace with a wood burning stove in the sitting room. From the front side of the house there are lovely views over the garden towards the South Downs.
The well-arranged ground floor is complemented over the first floor by four generous double bedrooms and an exceptionally spacious family shower room. Subject to obtaining the necessary consents it is thought that it may be possible to convert the substantial attic to provide additional accommodation.
The property is approached from the lane through double wooden gates, from which the property's impressive long gravel drive leads down to a wide parking area.
From the parking area, a stone paved path leads across the garden to the front of the house, bordering on either side by lawn. To the front of the house there is a wide paved seating area, which provides the ideal vantage point over the garden with lovely views towards the South Downs beyond. Adjacent to the western side of the house and the kitchen, is a further wide paved seating area with an adjacent greenhouse and garden store. The garden provides an attractive and mature setting for the house. From the garden, to one side of the house, a wooden pedestrian gate gives direct access to a public footpath leading in one direction to the centre of the village and the other to open countryside.
Ashfield lies close to the centre of the popular and picturesque village of Ripe, which has a post office and store, a delicatessen, a nursery school and a church.
The historic county town of Lewes lies about 9 miles to the west and provides an excellent range of shops, restaurants and recreational facilities, together with a mainline train service to London (London Bridge/Victoria about 68 minutes). The coastal, business and entertainment centres of Eastbourne and Brighton & Hove are approximately 9 miles and 15 miles respectively. Glyndebourne is about 6 miles.
Travelling on the A27 from Lewes to Eastbourne, pass over the Beddingham flyover and past the turning to Firle. Continue on the A27 for about a mile, before turning left signposted to Laughton and Ripe. Just before Ripe, proceed over the small bridge and having passed a property on the right, known as Mill Farm, the driveway to Ashfield is the next on the right, immediately after a telegraph pole and opposite a property known as Greensands. Ashfield will be found at the end of the drive, on the left.Read all
