Oare House sits within the hamlet of Oare, tucked away in a hidden valley on the northern fringe of the Exmoor National Park between the towns of Minehead and Lynmouth, on the Bristol Channel. The hamlet is surrounded by the wild moorland of Exmoor to the south.
Oare House overlooks the ancient Oare Church which is named in the famous R D Blackmoor novel Lorna Doone and the surrounding rolling Exmoor countryside with its magical hidden deep valleys and steep coombes is justly deserving of its description as Doone country.
Lynton and nearby Porlock are ideal bases from which to explore the wild and beautiful moorland and rugged coastline of Exmoor and the surrounding area. The area has a number of good hotels, inns, restaurants and shops. There is a picturesque harbour at Porlock Weir, which lies to the east.
Minehead is about 11 miles away and has a good range of supermarkets, shops and everyday facilities as well as a hospital. Barnstaple is about 25 miles away.
Communication links to the area are excellent, with the A39 providing links to the M5 Motorway at Taunton, where there is also a mainline railway station with regular services to London Paddington in under two hours.
