History Originally constructed as a school to provide education for up to 350 children, the Old School House building was designed by the eminent English architect, Philip Hardwick, in a neo-Gothic style in 1866. Hardwick was a founding member of the Institute of British Architects, and was awarded the seventh Royal Gold Medal for architecture in 1854.

The building was funded by the then governor of the Bank of England, James Morris, and has since been admired as a beautiful and important local landmark.

Directions

Leave the M20 at Junction 12. At the Cheriton interchange take the third exit onto the B2064. Continue on this road turning right onto Risborough Lane (B2063). Continue on this road until reaching the T-junction. Turn left onto Sandgate High Street. Neale Cottage will be found a little way along on the right hand side.
