A stunning period house in a peaceful yet highly accessible location with wonderful views
Scarletts Cottage is a very pretty and un-listed period house in a wonderful location, situated in a tucked away position, yet close to excellent schools and road and rail connections. The house has been extended and renovated by the current owners to create a wonderful and extremely comfortable family home. It has been decorated with great style and flair and is now beautifully presented. There is a fabulous kitchen/dining/living area which ideally fits the requirements of today's modern way of life, with underfloor heating, an electric Aga, and a wonderful spacious sitting area looking out through full height windows across the garden to the farmland beyond. The older part of the house is full of character and includes a delightful drawing room with a lovely inglenook fireplace and logburner. There is also a family room and a spacious study/library on the ground floor.Upstairs there is a charming master bedroom with en suite bathroom, and there are 4 further bedrooms, and a family bathroom. There is also a large attic with plenty of useful storage space.
The house sits in the middle of its grounds and has fantastic views across the adjoining farmland. The garden surrounds the house and is mainly laid to lawn, with mature hedges, shrubs and trees all around, and a wide terrace runs along the rear and south-facing side of the house. At the far end there is a vegetable garden, greenhouse and useful garden store/ workshop. There is an additional small paddock close to the house. The property is approached from the lane across a gravel driveway and there is plenty of parking outside the house and further down the drive in front of the garage.
Scarletts Cottage is situated in Plastow Green, a small hamlet between Kingsclere and Headley, extremely convenient for the excellent local facilities of Kingsclere which include a primary school, village shop, post office, butcher, chemist and doctors' surgery. The beautiful surrounding countryside is very popular for walking and riding and the area has all the advantages of rural outdoor space combined with accessibility to larger towns and transport links. The property is about half way between Newbury and Basingstoke so is in an excellent location for commuting, either by direct train service from Newbury into London Paddington or Basingstoke into London Waterloo, or by car via the M4 or M3. There is a wide choice of highly rated schools in the area including Cheam, Elstree, Horris Hill, Bradfield College and Downe House.
From Newbury, proceed south on the A339 towards Basingstoke. Follow this road for about 5 miles to Headley. Continue through Headley and take the left turning into Galley lane, just before Cheam school. Follow this road to the end and at the T-junction turn left into Hillhouse Lane. Continue along this lane keeping right as it bends around to the right, and take the first small right hand turn into a no-through road with a 20mph speed limit. Scarletts Cottage can be found after a short distance on the left hand side.Read all
