Shepherd House is a substantial Grade II Listed Georgian property, superbly located in the popular market town of Faversham.
Dating to 1808 and at one time a vicarage, the house now offers a superb home, full of the elegant features one would expect behind such a handsome symmetrical façade but extensively refurbished and fit for modern living. The vendors operate a thriving and well regarded, high end bed and breakfast business, offering stylish rooms in this beautiful Georgian building.
The house begins with a central front door opening to a hall where a graceful staircase climbs the full height of the house passing an incredibly tall sash window. Doors from the hall lead to an extremely well-proportioned double reception room arranged as a drawing and dining room. The room is double aspect with views to the walled garden and has intricate cornicing depicting hops. A second generous reception room has elegant fitted cabinets.
The kitchen and breakfast room are to the back of the house, again with some lovely original cupboards. There is lapsed planning permission for the creation of a large orangery style kitchen extension. Beyond the kitchen is a less formal sitting room with exposed brick work.
An extensive cellar has three rooms housing the plant room and providing excellent workshop and a wine store as well as a pair of cloakrooms.
On the first floor there are four generous bedrooms, three of which are en-suite, the master having a luxurious double shower. A rear landing links to a further bedroom and bathroom which can either be used within the main house, or has great potential to be used as a self-contained annexe in conjunction with the sitting room below.
The second floor provides two more lovely bedrooms with wonderful roof top views, as well as a further spacious bathroom and a separate shower room.
Shepherd House has the most wonderful walled garden of a size rarely found or expected in such a location. The perfect setting for the house, the garden provides space and privacy. A large terrace offers the ideal spot for al fresco entertaining and steps lead up the large expanse of lawn with established beds and borders.
A courtyard to the side provides further access from the front and a second courtyard gives a good storage and work area adjoining a garden store. A gate to the back of the garden leads to a garage and parking for several cars
The property is situated in the heart of the ancient market town of Faversham, with its picturesque lanes, boutique shops, regular market and choice of restaurants and cafes. The town is also home to the well-regarded Queen Elizabeth's grammar school.
Canterbury, with its first class shopping, leisure and cultural facilities, is close by. The north Kent coast is within easy reach, with the popular town of Whitstable to the northeast.
There are excellent road and rail links, with the M2 less than 2 miles away. Mainline rail services are available from Faversham, with journey times to London St Pancras in around an hour. The area also has good access to the Continent via Ashford International and Dover.
From the M2 (Junction 6): Exit and continue on the A251 towards Faversham. At the T-junction, turn left onto the A2. Take the first right turn on to The Mall and continue towards Nelson Street. Turn left onto Forbes Road and continue for 0.3 miles then turn left onto Preston Street. The property is located on the left hand side.Read all
