The Grange is a delightful Grade II Listed timber-framed hall house situated on the edge of the small village of Chillenden, nestled in rolling Kent countryside. Set beneath a thatched roof, the property has a great deal of charm both inside and out.
Dating to the 13th century, the original house has benefitted from a beautifully designed and constructed extension, providing a pleasing balance between the beamed reception rooms and the wonderfully spacious family kitchen. Day-to-day entry to the house is in to a lovely hall running across the back of the property and showcasing what would once have been its external wall. Off the hallway, two reception rooms are typically arranged either side of the front door and central chimney stack overlooking the garden. Both have inglenook fireplaces, one of which houses a woodburning stove. A further reception room provides a generous study. The oak-framed kitchen provides a wonderful family room, with a vaulted ceiling and doors opening to the garden.
The bedroom accommodation provides three well-appointed suites accessed via two separate staircases. The master bedroom has an ensuite shower room and bedrooms 2 and 3 both have bathrooms located on the second floor.
This property has 1 acres of land.
Two detached buildings provide both garaging, workshop and home office space, with further potential for the creation of a separate annexe (subject to the necessary consent). There is also a greenhouse, shed and log store. A gravelled drive approached through a lynch gate provides plenty of parking.
The gardens surround the house, with the main lawns lying to the front and leading down to the swimming pool area. A terrace surrounding the pool provides a wonderful, sheltered area for summer relaxation and entertaining.
Bordered by a tall conifer hedge, the garden is planted with a good variety of plants, shrubs and clipped box hedging, creating a picturesque setting. A terrace sits to the back of the house and there is a well.
The Grange is situated in the village of Chillenden which benefits from a very popular village pub, The Griffins Head. The nearby village of Wingham has an excellent farm shop Gibsons. Both Wingham and the Cinque Port town of Sandwich provide local amenities, including schools, shops, pubs and post offices.
The High Speed service to London St Pancras can be caught from Canterbury West (58 minutes), with Canterbury itself providing excellent leisure and sporting facilities and a broad range of educational establishments, including The Kings School Canterbury, Simon Langton Grammar Schools for boys and girls and universities.
From Canterbury: Leave on the A2 towards Dover. After about 4 miles turn left (signposted Wingham) and at the roundabout take the first exit continuing towards Wingham (B2046). After about 0.25 mile turn right towards Womenswold. Stay on this road passing through Womenswold and turn left at the next T-junction (signposted Snowdown and Nonington). Continue through Snowdown and into Nonington, taking the second exit at the mini roundabout continuing along Easole Street. Continue along Sandwich Road and after about 1 mile, turn left into Griffin Hill (signposted Chillenden). On entering the village take the first right turn into Short Street and continue to the end of the road, then turn left into Station Road where the drive to The Grange is the first on the left.
