An elegant former Rectory in beautiful gardens
The Chantry which was designed by John Gibson and built in the 1860s as the Rectory for the village is an elegant and spacious family house set in beautiful mature and totally private gardens and grounds. The current owner has greatly enhanced the living accommodation by the addition of a west facing Orangery with four sets of French doors opening onto the terrace and gardens. The original reception rooms have some wonderful original features including wonderful high ceilings. The well fitted Kitchen/breakfast room has an oil fired Aga at its heart. The bedrooms are well laid out with views over the beautiful gardens and there is a second floor which could be used as further bedrooms.
This property has 2 acres of land.
The house is approached from the Stratford road by an electric gate with a tree lined drive leading to the parking and garaging. To the north east of the house there is a detached Coach house which is currently used as an Office with a Playroom but this could be used as self-contained accommodation. To the rear of this is the triple garage with further garden stores and outbuildings. The mature gardens and grounds are a particular feature of the house with sweeping lawns framed by deep herbaceous borders and a large number of mature specimen trees including a fine Wellingtonia, Turkey Oaks and Ash trees. At the far end of the garden well screened from the House is a Tennis court. The gardens as a whole provide a wonderful private setting for the house.
Wroxton is a conservation village with a pretty green and duck pond situated near the market town of Banbury. It comprises mostly stone houses and cottages, many of them with thatched roofs. Village facilities include a hotel, three churches and a primary school. Wroxton Abbey, a former Augustinian priory founded in the early 13th Century, is built in its own grounds within the village and has beautiful parklands and lakes. The grounds are normally open to the public and provide excellent walks. Excellent every day amenities available in nearby Banbury. More comprehensive shopping and recreational facilities in Oxford and Stratford-upon-Avon. Easy access to the M40 motorway (J11) about 4 miles away. Regular rail service to London Marylebone from Banbury taking approximately 60 minutes.
From Banbury take the A422 Stratford Road. In Wroxton pass the Wroxton House Hotel on your right, the gate to the Chantry is about 300 metres on your right behind white wrought iron gates just at the start of a gentle left hand bend. If you reach the Firs on your right you have gone past the entrance.Read all
