Ye Olde Pounde is a delightful, detached Grade II Listed cottage, set in an elevated position overlooking the picturesque village of Thoverton. The property benefits from period features such as a large fireplace and original beams.
Entering through a covered porch to the front, there is a cosy sitting room on the ground floor, with an original stone fireplace, which now houses a woodburning stove. There is also a dining room, with a timber beam overhead. The kitchen and breakfast room provides plenty of storage space, together with an integrated hob, extractor fan and oven, while to the rear, there is a useful and spacious utility room with a cloakroom. The property also benefits from good ceiling height.
Upstairs there are two bedrooms, plus an additional walk-through room, which could be used as a third bedroom. The master bedroom has a double aspect and generous proportions. There is also a family bathroom.
To the side of the property there is a double garage with electric doors, and rear pedestrian access, while to the other side, there is private parking, which provides further parking to the side of the road for two cars, along with gated access to the rear gardens. There is a gate and pathway leading to the front of the house, through the splendid gardens with their numerous shrubs and colourful flowerbeds. The gardens continue around the side and to the rear of the house, providing an attractive setting, with well-stocked flowerbeds, and an area of paved terracing. There is also a shed in the garden.
The pretty village of Thorverton is extremely popular and has a thriving community, set amidst beautiful mid-Devon countryside. The village has an annual art festival, and a country fair, a cricket club, two churches, village shop and Post Office, farm shop, village primary school, pre-school, village hall and two well-regarded pubs.
Thorverton is also in a convenient location to access Exeter, the County Town of Devon. Exeter, approximately eight miles away, is the most thriving city in the South West and offers a wide choice of cultural activities with the theatre, the museum, arts centre and a wealth of good shopping and restaurants including a John Lewis and a Waitrose supermarket.
Communication links are excellent; the M5 motorway provides links to the A38 to Plymouth, or the A30 to Cornwall to the South, and Bristol and London to the north and east. Regular rail services run from Exeter St. Davids (approximately 7 miles from the property) to London Paddington, taking just over two hours. Exeter International Airport provides an ever-increasing number of domestic and international flights including two flights a day to London City Airport.
From Exeter city centre, take Western Way and at the roundabout, take the second exit onto Old Tiverton Road. At the next roundabout, take the second exit onto Stoke Hill. Continue through the village of Stoke Cannon, following the A396 and turn left at the signpost for Thorverton just before The Ruffwell Inn. Drive into the village and past The Thorverton Arms on your left. Pass the Exeter Inn on your left, and the property will be in front of you in an elevated position, as the road forks to the left.Read all
