Strathmore has origins in the early Victorian times and was once the village public house. This five bedroom home is situated in this well regarded hamlet of Up Somborne, surrounded by beautiful countryside, 3 miles from charming Stockbridge and five miles northwest of Winchester. Notable characteristics include flexible accommodation, a great deal of natural light by virtue of the orientation and delightful southwest-facing gardens which back onto open fields.
Whilst the accommodation could now benefit from some modernisation there is enormous scope to create a lifestyle of choice around the various attractive features that exist. The principal reception room enjoys a dual aspect and interacts very effecively with the gardens from two sets of sliding glass doors. The kitchen/breakfast room has plenty of storage cabinets, a central island, space for a dining table and a window seat in the pretty bay window. There is also a family room on the ground floor.
Upstairs the five double bedrooms are ideal for family life. There are two bath/shower rooms, one of which is situated on the ground floor. An attic room provides an opportunity to create a further bedroom and shower room if required thereby freeing space for a further bathroom on the first floor. The views from these upper floors are far reaching and over the delightful, undulating countryside.
At the front of the property there is a garden, which is mostly laid to lawn with a border hedgerow and walls, while to the side there is a block-paved driveway, which leads to the double garage. We could imagine that some would explore converting this bullding into a home office or perhaps creating ancillary accommodatioon to the main house, subject to the necessary consents. The rear gardens have a southwest-facing aspect and extend to more than 150ft, including paved terracing and an area of lawn bordered by established shrubs and hedgerow and interspersed with mature trees. There is also a swimming pool surrounded by paved terracing.
Strathmore is located in Up Somborne, a hamlet surrounded by beautiful countryside and within a short drive from the desirable town of Stockbridge to the west and the city of Winchester to the east. The nearest shops and amenities are to be found in Stockbridge where several pubs, cafe's, a delicatessen, a small supermarket, a greengrocers and various boutiques and galleries exist. Larger supermarkets and day-to-day amenities can be found in Winchester which provides excellent travel links to London (58 minutes to London Waterloo by train), and a variety of leisure and entertainment facilities. The choice of local schools is also excellent, with several good or outstanding-rated primary and secondary schools and independent schools such as St Swithuns, Princes Mead, Pilgrims, Winchester College and Farleigh.
From Winchester, take the B3049/Stockbridge Road away from the city centre and continue for four and a half miles before turning left just after passing the turning on the right signposted for Crawley. Continue for a mile and three quarters before turning left onto Strawberry Lane. You will find the property on the right-hand side after a quarter of a mile.Read all
