Best places for Valentine’s Day in Edinburgh

Q1 2017

Whether you have been together for a week, a month, a year or longer, the Edinburgh Team at Strutt & Parker have collated a list of romantic ideas for Valentine’s Day locations in Edinburgh in time for 14th February.

If you’re throwing caution to the wind and embracing the day of love with a first date, why not try an evening at the popular Stand Comedy Club on York Place to break the ice or an afternoon at Edinburgh Zoo where you can fall as in love as the UK’s only Giant Pandas or play around like the penguins.

If you prefer a romantic walk, Edinburgh has a number of places that will take your breath away.

If you’re up for it, watching sunrise on Arthur’s Seat is the perfect setting for a romantic start to the day. A short walk up Calton Hill also provides one of the best panoramic views of the city at any time of day. If you prefer long walks along the beach then why not head to Portobello via the famous Luca’s ice cream shop in Musselburgh.

If you’ve tried the outdoors you’ll have worked up an appetite and there are several restaurants that will be the perfect setting for the evening.

The Witchery just next to Edinburgh Castle at the top of the Royal mile top of our list. It describes itself as the ultimate romantic bolthole with its worldwide reputation for its exceptional dining experience, showcasing the very best of Scotland’s produce in the most magical of settings.

Origano on Leith Walk offers one of the best pizzas and authentic Italian experiences in Edinburgh. I would recommend by sharing a starter- the delicious antipasti platters with baby mozzarella, cherry and sunblush tomatoes, mixed cured meats, rocket and grano padano, marinated olives, warm ciabatta, plus garlic butter and red pest dips. The open plan dining with kitchen in view means you can actually watch your pizza being made and cooked in the large pizza oven.

Lastly, Bon Vivant on Thistle Street is another restaurant that creates a European environment with the menu of simple but well executed dishes focusing on flavour and quality produce. The warm and romantic atmosphere will be another winning setting for Valentine’s Day evening.
