It is with great sadness that we announce the passing away of James Laing, who died peacefully at home on Saturday 14 July.

James was educated at Eton and went on to Cirencester agricultural college. He joined the land agency department at Strutt & Parker in Lewes in the early 70s working on some of the finest estates in the South East, some of which he continued to work with in an advisory role throughout his career.

In 1982 James came to London and became one of the best known agents in the country house and estate market and was involved in some of the largest estate sales of the last two decades.

James will be remembered for his drive and his passion; he always had a view and in particular a comment for the press. A keen shot and a lover of the countryside, he was involved in many rural organisations including the game conservancy.

Our thoughts are with his wife Jane, his children, grandchildren, family and friends - we will all miss him.
