Take 5: Homes for sale near excellent pubs

There's a definite charm to having a great pub right on your doorstep. It's more than just a place to grab a quick drink; think of it as an extension of your own living space, and somewhere that offers an easy escape from cooking and the inevitable pile of washing up. A local pub is often a vibrant community hub too where you can bump into neighbours, catch up on local goings-on, and feel more connected to where you live. In fact, a good pub can put a village or area on the map, boosting its appeal and consequently, its house values. If the idea of having such a fantastic local amenity close by sounds appealing, then read on as we celebrate five homes currently on the market that have popular pubs nearby.

Crunnells Green House, Preston
Pub: The Red Lion
Just a four minute stroll away from this Arts & Crafts home is The Red Lion, which has the claim of being Britain’s first community-owned pub when it opened in the early 1980s. Even today, the pub is at the heart of this village’s community, with events held throughout the year – from the Harvest Auction in autumn to Carols at Christmas. Back home, Crunnells Green House was built in the style of Edwin Lutyens in 1919 and has elegant reception rooms across the ground floor, all with high ceilings and original features.

Tristram House, Bentworth
Pub: The Sun Inn
This attractive five-bedroom home can be found in the equally as pretty village of Bentworth. Located just a 10-minute walk from The Sun Inn, Tristam House has been in the same ownership for over three decades; a sign of what a fantastic family home it truly is. The village pub dates from the 17th century and is full of timber beams, open fireplaces, and original brick floors.

Finstock Manor, Finstock
Pub: The Bull
The Cotswolds is known for its cosy pubs and popular eateries, and one of the most talked about is The Bull in Charlbury. Finstock Manor, a grand Elizabethan manor house, is just a five-minute drive away from this popular haunt in the historical village of Finstock. This impressive Grade II* Listed home sits in just over 4.5 acres of grounds, including a swimming pool with pool house, granary, and equestrian facilities. From the home, there’s fantastic views over Cornbury Park.

The Billings, Chelsea
The Pub: The Fox & Pheasant
This butter yellow home is part of an exclusive enclave in Chelsea. And whilst it’s certainly a luxurious home – it’s set on a private road after all – the three-bedroom house has the feel of a cottage thanks to its cosy curated interiors. Living here, you’re also only a hop, skip, and jump away from The Fox & Pheasant, a gastropub that could have been plucked from a country village.

The Old Vicarage, East Langdon
The Pub: The Lantern Inn
Few things rival the allure of a Georgian rectory, but pair it with a superb country pub that’s just a short stroll away, and it becomes truly unbeatable. This Grade II listed home dates to the 18th century and has plenty of period features, but it’s been wonderfully updated and enhanced in more recent years. The acre of gardens is peaceful, and you’re surrounded by farmland and open countryside. Less than a mile walk away is The Lantern Inn, a cosy country inn with a great pub garden.
