Best fishing spots across the country

Q3 2018

The UK is home to some of the world’s best fishing destinations, from pristine lakes to winding rivers. Residential properties near these UK fishing spots are highly desired and cover a range of styles well-suited to those seeking an occasional holiday home getaway or long-term relocation.

Good anglers know the best fishing spots in the UK have just two requirements: the right kind of fish and the right location. As August is National Fishing Month, here is a rundown of some of the most prime fishing locations in the UK.

1.) River Avon, The Royalty Fishery, Christchurch, Dorset

Britain’s iconic river fishery is preferred by professional anglers all over the world for its robust, impressive supply of fish including chub, pike, barbel and various species of game fish.

2.) Marsh Farm Fishery, Milford, Surrey

Well-stocked with champion calibre carp, Marsh Farm Fishery offers single-day tickets and three different pools teeming with crucian carp. At least two of the pools are also well-supplied with tench for some of the country’s best summer fishing.

3.) Makins Fishery, Wolvey, Warwickshire

One of the UK’s first commercial carp fisheries, Makins was established by the legendary Billy Makin in the 1980s and remains one of the nation’s premier destinations for serious anglers. Day-use tickets are available and the vast complex boasts three phases with dozens of well-stocked pools.

4.) Redmire Pool, Herefordshire

The history of Redmire dates back to the 1950s, when fishing aficionados Dick Walker and Chris Yates cast their lines at this tiny farm pool. Though the giant carp are long gone, this remains one of UK anglers’ most revered locations and access is strictly regulated by a booking system.

5.) River Wye, Symonds Yat, Herefordshire

For sheer beauty, nothing quite comes close to the River Wye. This stretch of river wends its way through steep limestone cliffs and densely forested banks, offering an abundance of barbel, grayling, chub, pike and roach.

6.) Chew Reservoir, Somerset

Currently the hottest spot for pike fishing in Britain, the massive Chew Reservoir covers more than 1,200 acres and is home to some of the biggest monsters in the country. UK anglers here consistently bring in fish well over 40 pounds, even on the fly.
