Aberdeen Asset Management has completed the sale of Plaza West on Bridge Street, Reading; the 86,000 sq ft office building has been bought by Reading Borough Council for £10.65m.

Reading Borough Council is moving its operations from the Civic Centre to Plaza West in 2014 with refurbishment and renovation works due to begin shortly. The new council offices will incorporate a public reception area, a new council chamber and meeting rooms; the inclusion of a new Civic Centre Post Office is also being discussed.

The Civic Centre, Reading Borough Council’s current headquarters, is to be demolished which will pave the way for the regeneration of the Hosier Street/ Civic Area.

Ed Smith, head of national markets office agency at Strutt & Parker, who represented Aberdeen Asset Management, said: “Plaza West represented the best option for the council’s relocation. They were able to purchase the building with vacant possession which meant they could implement their relocation strategy immediately.”

Strutt & Parker acted on behalf of Aberdeen Asset Management; Reading Borough Council was unrepresented.
