When it comes to preparing your home for sale, it’s long been thought that neutral is the way to go, but how do you achieve a décor that suits both your personal style as well as the prospective buyers’?
If you're thinking of selling up in the near future, it doesn’t mean you have to live with bland and boring décor. After all, when you’re selling your home, you’re also selling the lifestyle your prospective buyers can enjoy in it, so it makes sense to incorporate some elements of the latest interior trends.
We take a closer look at some of the top interior trends for 2018 and how you can include them without putting potential buyers off.
Purple accents
Ultra violet is Pantone’s colour of the year for 2018 and incorporating a splash of it into your décor will instantly add some style to your abode. However, purple feature walls and violet carpets aren’t to everyone’s taste. Use purple accessories to boost your neutrally-decorated rooms and give them a modern, on-trend feel. New throw cushions, bedding or even kitchen accessories can all help update the space, and as an added bonus you can take them with you to decorate your new home.
Spa-like bathrooms
It seems we all want a touch of luxury in our bathrooms, with Pinterest searches for ‘spa bathrooms’ increasing 269 per cent in the last year. Entice buyers by creating a peaceful haven of relaxation in your bathroom, with uncluttered surfaces, candles, luxurious towels and flattering lighting. If you’re lucky enough to have a large bath – make it the feature of the room with a bath caddy and some pricey looking toiletries.
Statement doors
If you must have a splash of colour, then don’t paint the whole room – tap into the trend for statement doors. Again, there’s been a massive increase in Pinterest searches as more people look to wow visitors with a colourful front door. You can take the trend indoors too and give your rooms a pop of brightness by ditching traditional white or wood and painting doors a bold shade.
Relaxing neutrals
The good news for people hoping to sell their homes in 2018 is that the calming neutral shades which are popular with buyers are among some of the most on-trend hues. Dulux’s colour of the year is Denim Drift – a smoky grey blue shade - while sage green and soft earthy mustard and jade colours are also set to be popular.
Over-sized artwork
Searches for ‘big wall art’ have increased by a massive 600 per cent as people look to cover their walls with posters, paintings and photos. A perfectly crafted photo wall or a statement piece of art in the hallway will give your home instant style points and again shouldn’t put buyers off. In fact, they are the perfect way to hide slightly outdated décor.
Touches of brass
Forget rose gold and copper, this year it’s all about brass accents to give your space a luxe feel, according to Ideal Home. Lamps, mirrors, vases and picture frames are perfect ways to incorporate this trend.
