Strutt & Parker in Morpeth
The scenic county of Northumberland is a rural idyll that sits at England’s most northerly point and neighbours the Scottish border. Encircled by the River Wansbeck, the county town of Morpeth has a unique and interesting history that dates back to the 12th Century, although evidence now suggests that settlement there could possibly date as far back as the Neolithic period.
This vibrant town now has picturesque streets that host a wonderful array of independent boutiques, artisan shops, fabulous eateries, weekly markets and several art galleries that are punctuated throughout the town by historic landmarks including the Grade I listed gate house to Morpeth Castle and the 13th century Chantry Chapel. The town is surrounded by the breathtaking scenery of the Northumberland countryside with an array of expansive golden, sandy beaches within easy reach. The impressive Cheviot Hills lie to the north, the Northumberland National Park to the centre and the North Pennines to the south all of which offer dramatic and varied landscape to explore.
Despite being a rural county, Northumberland is well served by the A1 that links to the larger road network and several other business centres. Morpeth train station also benefits from being on the East Coast Mainline which regularly runs between London and Edinburgh and offers excellent options for commutability and ensuring that you can enjoy the tranquillity of country living, with the convenience of easy access to larger urban centres.
An elegant and charming county to live in, full of vibrant towns, delightful villages, unique history and whimsical scenery, Northumberland is a popular base for many.
