Anaerobic Digestion & Biogas

Anaerobic Digestion (AD) is the production of biogas for use as a fuel for a number of uses such as electric generation, transport and injection into the gas grid.

Food waste, animal wastes and forage crops are the main feedstock sources for AD with a nutrient rich fertiliser produced alongside the biogas. The process of producing biogas is also largely cyclical and fits into an overall sustainable cycle of managing agricultural waste. For example, animal waste produced on a farm can be used to produce biogas, which can then be used to fuel the farm machinery.
