Chalksole Cottage is a beautifully crafted country house combining details of local vernacular architecture with modern building techniques. The property is set in over two acres in a truly beautiful and tranquil setting, with fine rural views and an abundance of wildlife. Folkestone West is only six miles away and offers a high speed service to London St Pancras in under an hour.
The vaulted entrance provides access to the farmhouse style kitchen, that leads through to a bright conservatory with views and door out to the pretty garden. The generously proportioned dining room and sitting room sit at the rear of the house and enjoy views over the garden and fields beyond.
The sitting room is a beautiful room arranged around a brick fireplace and woodburning stove. Both rooms possess a wealth of charming period features with exposed beams and sash windows, and offer the perfect vantage point to admire the view and visiting wildlife. A utility room and cloakroom complete the downstairs accommodation.
Stairs rise to the first floor with four double bedrooms (three with fitted wardrobes), a family bathroom and shower room. The master bedroom is a superb room with an exposed crown post and vaulted ceiling. The rooms to the rear offer far-reaching rural views.
This property has 2.1 acres of land.
A large driveway allows space for plenty of parking, with a large double garage with workshop. The roof of the garage has a solar panel installation generating income for the property. A brick path leads to the house from here, with a pond to one side and well-organised kitchen garden with interspersed pathways and vegetables beds. The boundary is lined by either mature trees/hedging or a flint and brick wall offering a great deal of privacy. A sizeable green house with seating area in front sits to the north of the house.
The principal garden to the rear is largely laid to lawn with colourfully planted borders. A gate leads to the large paddock which has been managed for wild flowers to create a haven for local wildlife and incorporates an orchard at the west end. The land to the rear offers breath-taking views over the adjoining farmland, and is an idyllic space for family gathering and al fresco dining. A second gate to the east of the paddock leads out onto Warren Lane.
Chalksole Cottage is situated on the outskirts of Alkham village in undulating downland designated as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The village is about 3 miles from the A2, giving quick access to Canterbury and the M20 is also readily accessible. The villages of River and Temple Ewell provide day-to-day services. Ashford, Canterbury and Dover offer a wide range of facilities, and there are good schools in both the independent and state sectors. The High Speed rail service connects Folkestone Central to London St. Pancras in just under an hour.
From Ashford: Take the M20 towards Dover and continue past Folkestone as the M20 becomes the A20. After bearing left, take the A260 towards Canterbury. At the roundabout take the first exit. You will shortly travel over the A20. After doing so take the first left turn on to Alkham Valley Road. Continue into the village and take the first left after The Marquis of Granby onto Slip Lane, then take the first right onto Warren Lane. As the road straightens out the track to Chalksole Cottage will be found soon on your left.Read all
