A delightful three bedroom period property in the small village of Mitford

The Old Post Office is a handsome period house that offers attractive characterful accommodation arranged over two floors. The property features exposed timber beams, sash windows and original fireplaces, together with stripped wooden flooring and clean, neutral décor. The ground floor has two reception rooms. The sitting room is a comfortable and well proportioned room with an ornate original cast-iron fireplace, while the dining room is an ideal space for family meals or formal occasions. Towards the rear, the kitchen has fitted units to base and wall level, a range cooker with an extractor hood and space for all of the necessary appliances.

Upstairs there are three double bedrooms, including the principal bedroom, which has an en suite shower room and walk-in storage. The first floor also has the family bathroom, with its separate shower unit.

Outside

At the front of the house there is a splendid walled garden, which is southeast facing and welcomes plenty of sunlight during the day. The garden has an area of lawn, colourful border flowerbeds and a paved pathway leading to the entrance. To the side there is a driveway, which leads to the single garage towards the rear of the property. The garden to the rear includes a further area of lawn and a paved patio area, which is ideal for al fresco dining.

Historical Note A Grade II Listed drinking fountain in the front garden dating back to 1877 is inscribed 'J.P.O.M' for Colonel John Philip Osbaldeston-Mitford whom, it is believed, once lived here. Historic England state that this is the site of a holy well, '...the reputed scene in 1006 of miracles associated with a relic of St Cuthbert's shroud'.

Situation

The property is located in the heart of the small village of Mitford, two miles west of Morpeth. The village has a local pub, a parish church and a village hall, while all of the day-to-day amenities, including supermarkets, are available in Morpeth. There are excellent road links in the area, with the A1 just a mile from the property, and mainline train services available from Morpeth (17 minutes to Newcastle). Morpeth has several outstanding schools, including Morpeth First School and Abbeyfields First School for primary and, The King Edward VI Academy for secondary.
