Talisker is a high specification, contemporary property that was converted from two dwellings in 2015. It occupies a substantial plot within walking distance to the renowned surfing beach at Croyde, and benefits from beautiful sea views from the first and second floors. The house incorporates high-quality contemporary design and modern family living. The fabulous open plan kitchen/dining/ sitting/games room on the ground floor covers over 3,050 sq. ft. of indoor and outdoor space (including the terrace), connected through bespoke floor-to-ceiling fully-retractable glass panels for a seamless extension to the striking south-facing terrace. The location, high-specification, contemporary design, property size and large garden combine to make Talisker a truly remarkable property.
The front door opens into a welcoming entrance hall with an adjacent cloakroom and WC. The extensive open plan kitchen/dining/sitting/games room is at the heart of the ground floor. This impressive room has been thoughtfully designed to create the perfect flexible space for modern family living as well as entertaining, and benefits from bespoke floor-to-ceiling fully retractable glass panels that lead out to a large terrace. The stylish Hacker kitchen is well-equipped, with a large central breakfast bar, two wine coolers, Neff dishwasher, Neff induction hob, extractor fan, boiling water tap, two ovens, an integrated microwave and a Sub-Zero American-style refrigerator and freezer. Two additional reception rooms are located on the ground floor; an office, plus a playroom with retractable glass doors that lead out onto the terrace. A useful utility room with a Butler sink completes the ground floor.
A glass panelled staircase leads to the first floor, where there are five well-proportioned double bedrooms. Large windows in each of the rooms provide plenty of natural light. The double-aspect master bedroom benefits from far-reaching sea views, and has a dressing room as well as a contemporary en suite bathroom with Porcelanosa fittings including a large walk-in rain shower and a freestanding bath. Bedroom two also benefits from an en suite shower room. A stylish family bathroom services the other three bedrooms on the first floor. In front of the first floor is a flat roof that could, subject to gaining the necessary planning permission, be adapted into a balcony with outstanding views to the sea and countryside.
On the second floor are two further double bedrooms and a shower room. Bedroom 7 has a large picture window with incredible views towards the sand dunes and Croyde beach.
Talisker has an in-and-out driveway, providing plenty of parking for a number of vehicles or boat trailers on the private drive. The house enjoys a high level of privacy, with established trees and shrubs surrounding the boundaries.
To the rear of the house, the terrace creates the ideal space for al fresco dining and entertaining. At one end, there are two permanent white sofas facing a slate-topped coffee table. At the other end of the terrace is a permanent slate-topped table and an adjacent built in BBQ area with both gas and charcoal options. There are also built-in speakers. Steps lead down to the large lawn and orchard.
The North Devon Coast is arguably one of the most sought after waterside locations. This area of Devon is well-known for its rugged coastline, much of it owned and managed by The National Trust, which provides wonderful opportunities for long distance walking along the South West Coast Path. Just 11 miles away from Talisker is the Exmoor National Park, with its many beauty spots and opportunities for walking and riding.
The village of Croyde, with its renowned surfing beach has a number of pubs, restaurants and shops suitable for everyday amenities. The renowned gastro-pub, The Rock, is about 1 ½ miles away in Georgeham, whilst more extensive shopping can be found in the nearby towns of Braunton and Barnstaple.
There is excellent schooling in the area. Of note is West Buckland School at Barnstaple, which is close by with a daily bus service from Croyde. The school is well-respected and offers nursery, preparatory and senior education for children from the ages of 3 to 18. The property is also within the catchment area for the sought after Georgeham Primary School, approximately 1.5 miles away.
As well as being a world class family beach, Croyde, Putsborough and Saunton Sands are also renowned for some of the best surf in the country. Backing onto the Atlantic, a good swell can produce line after line of beautiful long slow rollers that prove to be an irresistible draw for long boarders from all over the country.
In addition to surfing there are many other sporting activities that take place on Croyde, Putsborough and Saunton Sands beaches; kitesurfing, kayaking and paddle boarding to name a few. Saunton Golf Club is nearby and is regarded as one of the best links courses in the country.
The cathedral city of Exeter, approximately 51 miles away, is the most thriving city in the South West. The city offers a wealth of cultural activities with the theatre, the museum, arts centre and a variety of good shopping, including John Lewis, Waitrose and many restaurants. Exeter University is recognised as one of the best universities in the country.
Communication links to the property are excellent. Talisker is conveniently positioned for easy access to the North Devon Link Road, which leads to the M5 and Tiverton, as well as the A39 for access to Cornwall. There is a two hour rail connection to London Paddington from Tiverton Parkway. Exeter Airport, approximately 63 miles away, offers an increasing range of international and domestic flights, including two flights a day to London City Airport. Bristol Airport, approximately 95 miles away, offers an even greater choice of international flights.
From Exeter, follow the A361 in the direction of Braunton. Turn left onto Caen Street/B3231 and continue for approximately 5 miles, into the centre of Croyde. Just after the stores and Post Office, turn left onto Joness Hill and then turn left onto Moor Lane. Talisker is on the left hand side.Read all
