Harbour Rise is a hidden gem, very privately situated in the heart of the town, only a moment from the beach and with superb sea views. The well-appointed accommodation is laid out around a lawned garden and the principal rooms enjoy fine sea views, with scarcely any other property in sight. Concealed behind walls and mature hedges, the house nestles below Bleak House, made famous for its Dickensian connections. The property has the rare benefit of a generous parking area, secure behind electronically operated gates.
The house has many period features, some of which may have been imported from Germany and elsewhere. The very bright rooms are well lit by large windows, and are accessed via reception hall where the main staircase rises to the long landing. To one side is a generous drawing room/studio, with a study/ bedroom opposite. A dining room is adjacent to the kitchen and utility room and has interesting wooden carvings around the door case. A spacious sitting room and playroom are found at the other end of the house; a shower room, a cloakroom and two small cellars complete the ground floor.
On the first floor are six bedrooms, with three bathrooms (one en-suite to the main bedroom). There is also a large dressing room with the boilers discretely housed in cupboards. A second staircase rises to the second floor and two further bedrooms, with an en-suite bathroom to the main guest bedroom, are found here.
The garden is mostly laid to lawn, enclosed by mature hedges and walls. It is designed to make the most of both the exceptional privacy and the sea views. Being raised up the lawns cannot be seen from the sea wall below, nor the paths adjacent to the house. Although Bleak House sits high above the house, it is scarcely seen due to the lie of the land, except from the raised parking area, which is linked to the garden by a flight of steps. Electronically operated gates make this secure and there is parking for a number of cars. A cave, used for garden storage, is found under the cliff at garden level.
Harbour Rise is located in the very heart of the popular seaside town of Broadstairs. It is accessed from Pier Approach on foot, or Fort Road by car and the popular Viking Bay beach is just 30 seconds away. The town offers a good range of amenities together with those found at the Westwood Cross Shopping Centre (2.5 miles). Further leisure, cultural and educational facilities can be found in the harbour town of Ramsgate and in Canterbury.
The High Speed rail service to London St Pancras runs direct from Broadstairs with journey times from 80 minutes), and the nearby A299 Thanet Way gives good access to the motorway network. In addition, new investment in the High Speed One railway line will result in Broadstairs seeing a significant improvement in journey times to London in the next few years, with projected peak hour journey times of about 68 minutes. There are frequent services to the Continent from Dover, Ramsgate and Folkestone, and the Eurostar service is available from Ashford International.
From Broadstairs High Street, proceed towards the sea to the end of the street and turn left onto Albion Street. Follow this road then as it curves left take a right turn into Harbour Street. The pedestrian entrance via Pier Approach will be found towards the end of Harbour Street, just before the Broadstairs Harbour car park.Read all
