Good proportions and good views
As its name suggests, the property was converted in around 2000 from a detached period barn to form a light and spacious family house. It is constructed of Cotswold stone under a tiled roof and the owners have maintained the property to a good standard. The accommodation is well-proportioned with good ceiling heights and plenty of south-facing windows making it light and bright. The layout works particularly well for modern family living with a large kitchen/dining room and a good-sized sitting room. There are four bedrooms (one currently used as a study) and a family bathroom. Estate Agent’s Act: One of the vendors is a part time employee of Strutt and Parker.
Outside
The garden is south facing. Enclosed within a traditional Cotswold stone wall and high timber fencing, it is safe for children and dogs. In front of the barn is a pretty sun terrace with an ornamental pond. The garden is mainly lawned studded with mature trees such as a Field Maple. There is driveway parking at the end of the barn with space for up to four cars.
Situation
The Barn enjoys a quiet setting in the popular village of Chalford Hill. The village has a well-regarded primary school, sports club, cafe and nearby pubs. Stroud (about 4 miles) has an excellent range of shops and services as well as its famous Farmers’ Market. Other local towns include Cirencester and Tetbury. The principal regional centres include Cheltenham, Gloucester, Bristol and Swindon, all of which are within daily commuting distance. There are direct rail services to London Paddington from either Kemble or Stroud stations, the former scheduled to take from about 70 minutes. Good access to both the M4 at Swindon and the M5 at Stroud. Schools in the area are also good in both the state and private sectors. There is Stroud High for girls and Marling School for boys and in the private sector there is Beaudesert Park and Wycliffe College. Plenty of local golf courses and many lovely walks in the surrounding countryside.
Directions
Take the A419 from Cirencester for Stroud. At the roundabout by Aston Down Airfield fork right for Chalford. In Chalford take the third turning on your right just before the Church onto Old Neighbourhood. Go up the hill for 800 metres, then turn right into Abnash signposted for Chalford Hill, France Lynch and Bournes Green. After 300 yards, take the second right hand fork onto Midway. Continue past the Old Neighbourhood pub on your left. At the cross roads turn right, down the hill, then turn right immediately after the school. The Barn is then 200 yards ahead.
