Take five | Houses with impressive home security
The world of home security is booming,” says Jordan Sturgess in our National Country House Department. “From cameras that cover the entire property, to panic rooms and smoke systems - what’s possible is constantly evolving.” Our latest Housing Futures survey found CCTV, home alarms, and smart video doorbells top the charts of the most sought-after security features. However, the wish list extends beyond the home’s bricks and mortar. Nearly a quarter of movers say that living within a secured gated community would improve their feeling of safety, and almost 30% believe well-maintained public spaces would help this too.
Whilst many buyers look to install security features when they move in, some homes already have them in place. Here, we round-up five homes for sale that have just that.
The Old Manor
Poffley End, Oxfordshire
The Old Manor might hold the mantle of being the earliest surviving house in the parish of Hailey, but it’s been thoughtfully brought into the 21st century by the current owners. Alongside a full redecoration – including practical perks such as rewiring – the works involved an upgrade of the home’s security systems. The most impressive one? A smoke system which promises to stop intruders in their tracks.
Silver Gates
Alwoodley, West Yorkshire
This three-bedroom apartment can be found in the sought-after development of Silver Gates – with both open countryside and city life on its doorstep. Owners have peace of mind here, thanks to the home being set on secure gated grounds, with electronic gates, extensive CCTV, and security lighting. The apartment’s four terraces all overlook the development’s communal gardens which are landscaped and maintained wonderfully.
Mulberry House
Copthorne Common, West Sussex
Reimagined by the current owners as a Georgian-style country home, Mulberry House has been transformed into a turnkey home – complete with a hugely successful holiday let business, KOA Cabins. The almost 14 acres of grounds are enclosed in security fencing, and the home is approached via electric operated security gates.
Ormiston Castle
Kirknewton, West Lothian
This baronial castle dates from 1851 but has been totally refurbished during a three-year renovation project which saw the property be taken back to its brick. As well as replumbing, rewiring, and sourcing interiors from across the world, Ormiston Castle now has a state-of-the-art Loxone smart home management system which curates the home’s lighting, multimedia, heating, energy saving, and security – ideal for managing the property while in residence or from afar. The owner can rest easy knowing there’s not many places more secure than this home.
One Hyde Park
Knightsbridge, London
One of the largest apartments on the third floor, this one-bedroom apartment is set across almost 1,000 sq. ft. and has access to all the amenities of One Hyde Park – including an incredible spa, squash courts, a golf simulator, cinema and a 60 person Mandarin Oriental team. There are extensive security measures in place, including private security, bulletproof glass, gates, and mail is even x-rayed before being delivered to residents.
