Vanessa Hale, Senior Analyst in our Research team, introduces the Housing Futures project

We are thrilled to share with you the 'Housing Futures: How the Market is Changing' research project.

As part of a multi-year project, our first published research piece discusses how the UK housing market which, whilst essentially grounded in the four cornerstones of property (demography, lifestyle, location, and finance), is fundamentally changing and resulting in new tribes. We have named these new tribes the Waltons, the MEcos, the My-Sizers, the GloMads and the Tumbleweeders.

Some of the tribes are still quite small in respect of the entire UK population; however we feel that they have started to impact the housing market and will continue to grow their influence as our society changes. Factors such as an ageing population, the growth of part-time families, and a lack of affordable housing are creating momentum for change.

Strutt & Parker Research has also identified five housing solutions that we believe have a place in the housing fabric of the UK in order to provide suitable housing alternatives for these newly identified tribes.

As part of the Housing Futures blog series we will be sharing our thoughts on the changing housing market and revealing more about the new tribes and housing solutions.
