In our second edition of Housing Futures it showed that by focusing solely on those who intend to move within the next five years, that respondents to our survey wish to settle in the South East, South West and the West Midlands. Vanessa Hale, Partner in Strutt & Parker's Research team examines the UK's leading locations.

The South West serves as a lifestyle and retirement location, while the South East and West Midlands are established commuting locations. When taking into account all the respondents, and analysing by age, the areas that may experience the largest exodus by those between the ages of 18-29 will be Scotland, the South West, East Anglia, and Yorkshire and the Humber. For those who are over the age of 30, it will be London and the South East. The regions to benefit the most from the internal migration by those over the age of 30 will be the South West and the West Midlands.

Perhaps a better insight into these locations might be to understand a bit more about the desires of housing stock from those living in the regions currently.  In the Housing Futures survey we asked all the respondents if they would consider living in our new types of housing and the results when analysed on a regional basis were quite fascinating.

Without question the HEAL House was the strongest desired housing solution with London showing the strongest interest at 63% and intriguingly the HEAL House held a tie with PRS in Northern Ireland both at 47%.  Following that the Yo-Yo House and Platinum Places seem to play Ping-Pong between second and third strongest desired across the UK with Micro Mansions rounding out the quintet.
