As a result of significant changes to the Scottish planning system over the last few years, all local authorities in Scotland are preparing new style Strategic Development Plans (SDPs - which will replace the Structure Plans in the 4 City Regions of Edinburgh, Glasgow, Dundee and Aberdeen) and Local Development Plans (LDPs - which will replace the Local Plans, and in areas outwith City Regions the Structure Plan as well). With increasing emphasis by the Government on achieving a genuinely plan led system, engaging with the review of these documents (depending on the scale of development) can significantly smooth the way for your proposed development when it comes to submitting a planning application.
This table provides you with a breakdown of the major stages, and the currently envisaged consultation dates for each local authority and National Park in Scotland. These dates are of course subject to change, and full details can be found on the planning pages of the relevant local authority website.
