Reasons to move to Aldeburgh

A thriving port in the Tudor period, Aldeburgh has always punched above its weight.

The small seaside town has a distinctive and strong cultural identity, as well as a number of connections to the arts. The Aldeburgh Literary Festival attracts big names in the book world, and composer Benjamin Britten made his home here, starting both the Aldeburgh Music Club and the Aldeburgh Festival. From a historical standpoint, the town has played a huge role in British history, as it was home to the businesses that built Sir Francis Drake’s Golden Hind.

Aldeburgh doesn’t just revel in its lavish history, though. The seaside settlement is a wonderful place to lay roots thanks to its friendly residents, wonderful attractions, and plentiful amenities. For the day-to-day, there are plenty of places to shop for groceries and other essentials. You can also support local businesses by buying from one of the many quirky independent stores that line the centre of the town, or stopping off for a drink or snack at the welcoming cafes that call Aldeburgh home. The local fish and chips shop is also a bit of a landmark, garnering national press attention for its quality. Nearby Ipswich is always there for those who might need something not immediately available in town, too.

Aldeburgh is also a great spot if you’re thinking about the bigger picture. There’s a great school system and plenty of regular activities for local kids to get into, but it’s also accessible and offers plenty of opportunities for connection-building for those who may not be as mobile as they once were. This is reflected in the housing options, which are a mix of all kinds of homes, from assisted living facilities to massive houses for growing families.
