Lot 7 - A substantial, commercial conifer forest.

The forest has been extended and enhanced by the current proprietors during their ownership. Operations are managed in-hand, with all forestry equipment owned by the estate. A broad range of age classes is serviced by a comprehensive network of forest roads, most of which have been upgraded to handle modern timber traffic and operational requirements.

The plantations are generally on easily worked, well-drained, gentle slopes and mineral soils. The forest contains reserves of mature timber for harvesting during the next 10 to 15 years, young crops that will move forward into a longterm thinning programme and areas of younger restock crops now well-established.

In addition to the strong commercial element, the owners’ passion for forestry has led to additional attention to detail not normally found in commercial forests.

A small area of agroforestry has been successfully established where protected broadleaves are under-grazed by sheep. Pockets of broadleaves have been brashed and high pruned; again, activities which are rarely carried out in commercial woodlands. The A827 provides good access out to the A9 and on to a number of forest processors. Some of the timber from Bolfracks has been converted into woodchips. Indeed, the estate has various contracts with properties with woodchip boilers in the vicinity.
