A compact, second rotation conifer forest with high yield class crops, close to established timber markets in the Scottish Borders.

Dunter Law was originally established in 1982 on former hill ground with a commercial conifer crop of predominantly Sitka spruce, with pockets of Scots pine. Following the first phase of felling, the property was replanted in 2019 and 2020 with improved Sitka spruce, now exhibiting excellent growth and form.

The underlying soils are largely mineral based with gleys and podzols that are well suited to commercial forestry, as exhibited by the high yield classes, estimated to be 24 and above on the better, free draining, northern and eastern slopes.

Felling of the remainder of the first rotation crop was completed in January 2024, with a small area left for natural reserve. Per the Long-Term Forest Plan, this area is to be restocked, primarily with Sitka spruce, which would take the overall productive area to 80%.

Attractive amenity features, including Philip Burn that flows on the northern boundary of the woodland and the small burn in Dunter Cleugh, compliment this well rounded, compact, and attractive commercial woodland.

This property has 229.8 acres of land.
