A substantial thatched house with landscaped grounds in the popular village of Streatley on Thames

Post Box Cottage is a charming, detached family residence that offers spacious and adaptable accommodation arranged over two floors.

The main entrance opens to a bright dual-aspect reception hall with staircase. The accommodation flows to the central kitchen/breakfast room, which features kitchen units, work surfaces and appliances and double doors leading to the dining room. The double aspect dining room also benefits from French doors to the terrace and garden. Next to the kitchen is a dual-aspect family room with fireplace, which leads through to the office, another cloakroom, back hall and secondary staircase. Also on the ground floor are two bedrooms and a wet room.

Both staircases lead up to the triple aspect 9 metre (31 ft.) drawing room, with feature fireplace and open-plan access to the library with integrated shelving and storage. Also, on this floor are the generous principal bedroom with en-suite bathroom and walk-in wardrobe, two further bedrooms and a shower room.

Outside

The property is situated in a garden, which measures out at circa 1.29 acres comprising lawns, curved borders, vegetable plots, greenhouses, fruit cages containing raspberries, gooseberries, blackcurrants and rhubarb and a considerable paved sun terrace. A large secluded pond lies at the top of the garden with plum and apple trees. The driveway and detached outbuildings offer ample parking with a double garage, workshop, store, shed and plant rooms.

Situation

The picturesque village of Streatley-on-Thames is situated in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty on the Berkshire side of the river Thames, directly opposite the Oxfordshire village of Goring and almost equidistant between thriving Pangbourne and Wallingford. As such, there is an enormous range of everyday, recreational, cultural and educational facilities nearby. Noted independent schools in the area include The Oratory, Moulsford Prep, Cranford House and Pangbourne College. Connections are excellent, with Goring & Streatley station offering speedy London links and the A34 and M4 (J13) providing convenient road connections.

Directions

From Strutt & Parker’s Pangbourne office, head south-west on the High Street (A329), taking the second exit at the roundabout onto Station Road and proceeding for 4.1 miles before turning left onto Wantage Road (A417) and shortly left onto Rectory Road. After 1.5 miles, the road forks and the thatched house is on the left-hand side opposite the post box.
