We have a broad range of experience in a hugely diverse range of renewable energy projects across the whole of the UK. Staff in our residential, rural, commercial and development departments benefit from their own and their colleagues' local and national knowledge. It is an exciting and massively important part of our business, in which all our experts are fully engaged.

We have broad experience of hydro-electric schemes, particularly in Scotland where conditions in many areas are ideal for generating this kind of power. We advised the owner of one estate about the restructuring of an existing scheme bought from the original developer. We have increased the financial returns by 45% by restructuring sale agreements of the electricity generated. Another scheme brings in over £250,000 a year and has revolutionised the financing of that estate.

Wind power is a sometimes controversial but prominent renewable energy right across the UK. With the on-going network consolidation in the telecoms industry many existing masts will become redundant over the next few years. We are working with companies on the feasibility of converting them into small wind turbines providing good potential returns for what would otherwise be a redundant piece of land, useless for much else. Aside from the income-producing potential of investing in wind power, there are interesting inheritance tax possibilities when creating a new asset such as a wind turbine or turbines.

Solar power is another increasingly efficient and popular method of generating renewable energy. Recently a client received planning permission for a new building which featured as a condition that 10% of its energy must be sourced from renewables. Our experts were able to help the client put in place a solar power scheme to fulfil this requirement.

Anaerobic digestion is a lesser-known but potentially exciting area in which we are making several investigations on behalf of clients.
