Chichester is picturesque, well connected, and underrated. Close to the well preserved medieval Arundel and the golden beaches of Bognor, it can occasionally be overshadowed by these two more famous sites. However, the city is home to its own historical treasures (and the most listed buildings in West Sussex), as well as being just a short drive from the stunning, sandy West Wittering beach.

Chichester’s most famous attraction is undoubtedly its cathedral, which harks back to Norman times. But the city is also blessed with Roman ruins, modern art galleries, and well-maintained parks. Additionally, the centre has a great mixture of high street favourites and small businesses, with independent stores and well-reviewed local restaurants sitting next to big chains.

Chichester is in a wonderful geographical position, sandwiched between the rolling downs and the sunny shoreline. This means country walks and beachside swims are possible on the same day, so if you like to keep moving then you’ll be in heaven. There are also plenty of other active pursuits to dive into nearby, as well as tons of welcoming local groups and communities for newcomers to join.

Local transport infrastructure consists of mostly buses, but the city does have a well connected train station too, with London just 90 minutes away. Brighton is also just under an hour by car or train. The school district has plenty of options for those in the catchment area, with some outstanding institutions in and around the city providing great opportunities to the kids enrolled in them.

Housing is diverse, with everything from large family homes to modern studio apartments. Neighbourhoods like The Pallants are home to gorgeous Georgian houses, whereas others like Summersdale are more contemporary, so there are dream homes for all tastes and budgets. A perfect place to settle down, no matter what you’re looking for.
